Try one thing to trade better

Short answer

When your trades show a clear pattern, the dashboard proposes one thing to try for your next 20 trades. Vink counts how often you keep it and what those trades make, then shows you the result.

Stats answers questions when you go and look. Something to try comes to you: when your own trades show a pattern, the dashboard proposes one thing to change, and Vink counts whether it helps.

What Vink proposes

Vink reads all your taken trades, on every account, in R. It proposes something only when a pattern crosses a bar, so most days there is nothing to try. It can propose, for example:

  • taking only the trades that fit your plan fully, when your Partly trades lose;
  • trading only a ticker that clearly pays, or leaving one that loses;
  • skipping a weekday, an hour or a setup that loses;
  • waiting 30 minutes after a loss, or taking fewer trades a day;
  • closing every loss at the stop, or letting winners run to the target;
  • leaving a trade when you notice a feeling such as Revenge;
  • writing your morning plan before the first trade.

A group of trades is only proposed when it loses on its own and is clearly worse than the rest. Those proposals are marked Clear.

Your own mistake tags and risky feelings work a little differently. When you've tagged one on 6 trades or more, and at least 80% of them didn't win, Vink can propose it before it's clear. It's marked Too early, so you know the numbers are still thin.

Try it

  1. On the dashboard, open Something to try, the first line of the strip under the title.
  2. Read the numbers it's based on, and the one thing it proposes.
  3. Click Try it for 20 trades. A habit, like the morning plan, runs for 10 trading days.

Trying it makes it your focus. If you already had one, the proposal says which focus it takes the place of. Nothing is blocked: you can still log any trade.

To see the evidence first, click the link next to the buttons. Not now puts that proposal away for 30 days, and nothing else is proposed for 7 days.

While it runs

A card above the strip shows Trying with how many trades are counted so far, one mark per trade. A blue mark is a trade that kept it, a red mark a trade that broke it.

Every trade you enter after you click Try it counts, in order, whenever you log it. A trade you entered before that never counts.

To end it early, click Stop trying this. You then have no focus until you set a new one.

The result

After 20 trades the card shows:

  • how many of them kept it;
  • what the trades you kept made, per trade;
  • what the trades that broke it made together.

20 trades can't prove a difference by themselves. So the card also checks all your trades again and says whether the numbers that started it still show, with their mark, or no longer stand out.

Then choose one:

  • Make it a plan rule adds it to your trading plan, in its own words.
  • Try 20 more starts a new count from zero.
  • Drop it ends it.

After any of these, nothing new is proposed for 7 days. The same thing isn't proposed again for 30 days, and never again once it's in your plan.

With your review

An experiment is your one focus, so your weekly review knows about it. Under One focus for next week, click Keep trying it to keep it as the review's focus. If you pick another focus instead, the sheet tells you that saving ends the experiment.

Make this my focus on Stats ends a running experiment too, because there is only one focus at a time.
