HelpYour plan and the mental journal
Use the mental journal
Short answer
Each day has two halves. Before your session, rate how you feel and write your plan. After it, rate how you feel now and write your debrief. Either half on its own is a complete entry. Stats and your review read them back.
The mental journal keeps one entry per day, for you across every account. It records how you felt before you traded and how you felt afterwards. Every field is optional, and a day you took no trades still counts.
Before session: your plan
- Open Mental journal, which opens on today.
- Under Before session, rate how you feel from 1 to 10.
- Pick the Emotions that fit, if any.
- Write your Plan. Vink asks one question there: what would make you stop?
- Click Save day.
You can do the same from the dashboard. Its Today line asks how you feel before you start. Pick a number, and the emotions and plan open below it.
After session: your debrief
- Open Mental journal again.
- Under After session, rate how you feel now.
- Pick your emotions at the end of the day.
- Write your Debrief: anything to remember from today.
- Click Save day.
If you're working on a focus from your weekly review, the debrief first asks Kept it today?. Answer Kept, Partly, Not kept or Didn't come up.
After you write your plan, the dashboard's Today line steps aside. It comes back for the debrief when you log a trade that day, or at 18:00, whichever is first. To change that time, open Settings and pick another hour under Debrief comes back at.
Between the halves
The sheet shows the day's trades between the two halves. Once you've rated either half, the top of the page shows where you started, where you ended and the drift over the day.
The list of days on the left shows each day's two ratings and a bar of that day's trades. You can open any past day and write it later. Vink marks it Back-filled, and Stats leaves back-filled plans out of its morning figures.
The tilt check
Before a trade you're unsure about, check in: how you feel right now, next to the plan you wrote this morning. Nothing is scored.
On today's sheet, click Check in now. Vink also offers the check when you click New trade, once you've written in the mental journal at least once. You can always click Skip.
The check asks for your feeling right now, your emotions and an optional note. Then you can choose what you'll do: Stop for now, Wait or Take the trade anyway. Each check is saved on its own.
To stop the offer before a new trade, tick Don't show this before a new trade again, or switch off Offer a tilt check before a new trade in Settings, under Mental journal.
Sleep, energy and stress
In Settings, under Mental journal, you can switch on Track sleep, energy and stress. Your plan then asks three more questions from 1 to 10. Read your Stats explains what happens to these ratings.
Where your answers come back
- Stats, in the question How does my mind move my results?: your morning ratings against how those days went, and the trade after a tilt check.
- Your weekly review, under The mental half: the days you planned and debriefed, your mood before and after, and your tilt checks.
- The tilt check shows you this morning's feeling and plan.
- Accountability partners see your mental journal only if you turn on Share my mental journal (feelings and emotions) for them. Share your journal with a partner explains it.
