Tag your trades

Short answer

On the trade form, type in Setups, Went well, Mistakes or Facts and pick a tag or create a new one. New tags save themselves for next time. Rename or delete them on the Tags page, and filter Trades and Stats with Tags.

Tags say what kind of trade it was and how it went. Stats uses them to show which setups make money and what your mistakes cost.

The four kinds of tag

  • Setups: your strategies and entry patterns, such as a breakout retest.
  • Went well: good habits you want to repeat, such as waiting for confirmation.
  • Mistakes: errors you want to see less of, such as moving your stop.
  • Facts: neutral facts about the trade, such as a news day or the London session.

The setups in your trading plan become Setups tags too.

Tag a trade

  1. On the trade form, click in Setups, Went well, Mistakes or Facts.
  2. Pick a tag from the list, or type a new one and choose + Create. Enter or a comma adds what you typed.
  3. Click Save trade.

A new tag is saved for next time when the trade is saved. To take a tag off a trade, edit the trade and click the × on the tag. A trade can carry up to 25 tags of each kind, and a tag name is at most 40 characters.

Manage your tags

Open Tags to see every tag by kind, with the number of trades that carry it.

  • To add one, type in Add a tag… under its kind and click Add.
  • To rename one, click Rename. The new name shows on every trade that has the tag.
  • To delete one, click Delete, then Delete tag. The tag comes off its trades, and the trades stay. Deleting can't be undone.

The same name can exist under two kinds, for example as a setup and as a fact.

Filter by tag

On Trades and Stats, click Tags in the filter bar and pick the tags you want. With two or more, Match chooses between trades that have All of them or Any of them. Clear all removes every filter.

On Stats, the Tags tab under All numbers has a table for each kind: which setups make money, which good habits pay off, and what each mistake costs. Combine tags shows the results of trades that carry several tags together.
